This 5x7" handcrafted silver gelatin image is being offered at the reduced price of $250 - a significant savings from the gallery This silver gelatin, selenium toned, print is approximately 5x7" in size. It is personally printed by me (as are all my prints), processed to current archival standards, signed, and mounted on 14x17" 2-ply museum board with a discrete embossed stamp denoting this is a silver gelatin print by John Sexton in the lower right corner. Please note that this print is mounted, but NOT overmatted.

This portrait of Ansel was made in September 1979 after a special preview reception of Ansel's monumental one-person exhibition Ansel Adams and the West at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City, curated by John Szarkowski. This was my first trip to New York, and it was a thrilling experience in so many ways. I had started working as Ansel's full time Photographic and Technical Assistant a few months earlier, and was most pleasantly stunned when Ansel and Virginia invited me to accompany them on the trip to the East Coast. The image was made as Ansel, Virginia, along with a number of their close friends, and I were walking out of the impressive gathering at the museum. As we passed the title wall panel for the exhibition I asked Ansel if he would be willing to pose in front of his iconic photograph Clearing Winter Storm. He gladly agreed and I made the handheld photograph with my trusty Nikon. I hope you can sense from my image that Ansel was extremely pleased with the exhibition, and the entire evening. I have been flattered to have this image reproduced in a number of books and articles about Ansel over the many years that have passed.
